Finn Hall, also known as “the Minnesota Pelimannit,” performs a diverse range of traditional Finnish and Finnish-American dance music, including both original folk tunes and styles popularized in the 50’s and 60’s. In addition to appearing in the upper Midwest, the band has appeared nationally and internationally at ethnic festivals and events. They have accompanied the Twin Cities Finnish folkdance group Kisarit. Their joyful work is also featured on the video The Old Finn Hall Variety Show, Parts I & II, which was recorded in 1997, and they can be found on several tracks of the CD A Finnish American Christmas, produced in 1998 by Koivun Kaiku. Finn Hall’s first full-length CD, Reflections/Muistelmia, was released in 2002. The band is fervently dedicated to carrying into the 21st century the spirited music played in the Finn Halls so central to social life in most Finnish-American communities from the late 1800s through the 1950s.
