“. . . everybody understands the music of Myllärit, regardless of their nationality”

Karjalan Sanomat, Russian Karelia

“. . . majestic multi-colored wall of sound”

The Scotsman, Scotland

We had people in their eighties dancing with people in their thirties, five year olds standing on their seats with eyes wide open. A Finnish-American elder reminded me that this is ‘not toe-tapping music, it is knee-lifting music!’ Then, all at once, the audience went quiet as Tatyana sang an Old Russian ballad about lost love; there was clearly a deep visceral reaction amongst all of us.

Myllärit (The Millers), a new-wave band formed in Petrozavodsk, Russian Karelia (in 1992), bring a dynamic jazz, rock, and world-music attitude to both traditional Karelian, Finnish, & Russian songs and their own compositions. These exuberant musicians are accomplished on both traditional and modern instruments. They have toured and played worldwide.
